Mature forests are not net absorbers of CO2. They absorb CO2 when the leaves are growing, and in the dormant season the leaves drop and rot, releasing their CO2.


Only young trees in their fastest growing phase are net absorbers of CO2. This is why carbon credits are used to finance the destruction of the rain forest, killing off the thousands of rare species that live there. Your view is a tad too simplistic. The world has been warming for centuries because of numerous factors not just deforestation but the fact is that man has contributed to that warming process to an extent that is difficult to revert. Logically the increasing world population will make this worse so either man changes his ways or enhances his own demise.
listen dude, just because deforestation produces a large chunk of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, doesn't mean its the sole factor behind it. its arrogant idiots like u who try to justify not putting in their best efforts to stop global warming by putting all the blame on a factor which is ';outside of your control';, that we have this problem. warming and cooling cycles have been going on for millions of years. this whole story is just a way to steal money from us. Gore is making billions of bucks on this and GE is the new Halaburten. the only change you got was a change to a different set of crooks in washington.





We were all worried abut global cooling in the 70's and we were being told that it was caused by the same things that is causing warming now. in a few years when we are well into the next cycle of cooling we will told first that it worked and later that we are causing global cooling and need to give another billion bucks to a differnet Al Gore.
