Does taking birth control continuously (no break for period) cause you to gain weight?

I'm on Marvelon and take it for 4 months or so continuously and have gained 25 lbs in 6 months. I eat super healthy and always exercise, and have not changed this at all. I started Yasmin yesterday, does anyone know if this will cause me to lose weight? Should I start having my period every month?Does taking birth control continuously (no break for period) cause you to gain weight?
All birth control pills contain female hormones called estrogen and progesterone. Marvelon %26amp; Yasmin belong to the category called monophasic birth control pills. Marvelon contains desogestrel, a new class of progestogens, and estrogen ethinylestradiol. Yasmin contains estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and progestin (drsp鈩?. Any medicine that has estrogen will cause weight gain; women do suffer from bloating at the time of their periods due to natural estrogen surge in their bodies. It was hoped that by introducing low dose estrogen pills, weight gain as a side effect could be minimized or eliminated, but as your experience shows, it does not happen. It is possible that you may not gain weight with the change of your pill but is probable that you will gain weight even with Yasmin as it does contain estrogen, which promotes sodium retention leading to weight gain and high blood pressure in some women. The birth control pills offer advantages like prevention of anemia, uterine and ovarian cancer. They may cause a very small risk of breast cancer. Some women can develop yeast infections with use of birth control pills. Birth control pills prevent pregnancy in 99% of cases but do not protect a woman from sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV. If you continue to experience weight gain, ask your doctor about an intrauterine device and encourage your partner to use condoms.
