Is this a sign that the people have no control?

The overwhelming majority of Americans favor increasing our border security in both parties, but it fails to happen. If someone proposed this, they would get overhwleming support from the majority of Americans. Is the fact that nobody has proposed this just further proof that the politicians in both parties could care less what the people want?Is this a sign that the people have no control?
Yep. And wouldn't it be nice to know what their hidden agenda is? There HAS to be one. I don't believe for two seconds that it's to fulfill jobs for big business. Is this a sign that the people have no control?
yes

that's why we need to take $$$ out of politics

it's the root of most of the problems we are facing IMO
You got it!
maybe as americans, we could start a ';build the wall'; fund and ask for each american to send 5 dollars forx amont of border fence and then donate the money to each state/city/county who will build it without gov. funds.hmmmmmmmm
If you are serious about wanting our borders secure then study Fred Thompsons platform.
Yes, they don't want to increase security on the border. Slave labor is good for business.
1) Our country is too politically correct. Such a proposal would be attacked as racist, and mexican phobic.

2) The big donors who contribute to the political campaigns oppose this.

3) They are afraid of alienating the hispanic vote.

There are plenty of examples that the people's will does not matter...such as iraq war, money give aways to other countries, lack of education funding, lack of good low cost health care, lack of competition in health and pharmaceuticals, etc...

Its a rigged game.

I think there are 2 huge problems that need fixing. 1) campaign finance reform....we need to limit the influence of big corporations on politicians and 2) We need to give incentives for media to remain small and independent. Our media being owned increasingly by huge mega multinational corporations means that our media is really our enemy. sure they dont usually make it blatant, but it does impact whether they criticize proposed policies of the gvt that would be harmful to the people.

Notice for example how the media suddenly started describing illegal aliens as immigrants or migrants. Notice how most of the media does not really critice trade policy and has really been very meek on criticizing the status quo...and its getting worst--Murdoch just bought dow jones.
YES.
to be fair, only 24% of americans vote. THAT is a sign that people want to BE controlled!
Yes, it is also a sign that big businesses that gain the most from cheap labor are the ones who are truly in control.
i do think a larger agenda is an underlying reason. this is one area where libs and cons are agreeing and i think it is to further their agenda of the North American Union to model us after the EU, they even have a name for the currency, the America, like the Euro.

most of this is done under the wire, in secret. one should google it and read about it and be aware of the globalization.
Yes, you are correct. I also think they are more concerned with making big business such as agriculture happy with a steady stream of cheap labor. Got to pick those apples even if it goes against what the rest of America wants.
I agree with your statement.
If the politicians actually had to follow public opinion in order to get elected, this war would be over and the borders would be shut.

Unfortunately, thanks to short attention spans and media complicity, Bushes get elected because people can only remember how bad Clinton was, or vice versa!

Oh I think the immigration 'agenda' is based on the fact that Social Security is designed to work in a society with a constantly growing population. Thanks to birth control, we have a slightly shrinking population and soon there will be only two tax paying workers for every Social Security beneficiary - it was 15 to 1 when it started, but the birth rate was also much much higher. An unemployment rate under 5% is considered a 'labor shortage,' that is, more jobs could probably be created if there were more appropriately skilled/motivated employees.
