If the president has no control over the economy, why are people blaming Bush for the way the economy is?

I am hearing that the president has no control over the economy, but at the same time people bash Bush for the trillions of dollars in debt we are.

Does he have control or not? Or, does he only have control when people who don't like him want to make him look bad (well...worse).If the president has no control over the economy, why are people blaming Bush for the way the economy is?
Same reason Bill Clinton got a lot of the credit when the economy was good during his 2nd term. He was involved in a ton of bad things but all the simple minded remember is a good economy. If the president has no control over the economy, why are people blaming Bush for the way the economy is?
Democrats blame Bush only when the stocks market goes down.
the president (along with congress) has the authority to make the decisions that effect the econony, for example how to spend government money. Unfortunately if he or she does not make these decisions wisely it results in a number of consequences such as the ones being seen under the Bush administration.
Where fid you get your education from? The President's decisions and the Law makers, combined. have everything to do with the direction this country is going. The President also has the veto power.

Take a good study of how our National Debt is murdering America and its future. We are borrowing from foreign nations, with piling up interests by the minute.

Please, freebird, the Clinton 2nd. term wasn't that great. Remember Silicon Valley Episode during which inflation occured? Followed by the bubble that left dreams falling... because the Clinton years contributed to the selling off America's creativity, patent rights to foreign nations ? A quick Clinton fix with no vision for the years ahead turned out to be BAD!

I'm not young to see too far ahead into the future. But I fo have children and I care. At least they are well educated and can easily migrate with their career skills, but can you all?

Yeah, sure, vote McCain to allow America to be chocked to its last breath... and ironically by Arabs!

Yeah, believe Hillary's lies:

This is the real voting record of Obama... on behalf of the American People. It has been fact checked:

WHO YOU VOTE IS CRUCIAL TO YOUR OWN FUTURE, SO MAKE A WISE CHOICE!
he obviously has at least SOME control over the economy- he sent us to war, and war is EXPENSIVE!!
This particular pres. doesn't seem to have any control over anything. The whole idea is to elect one who does.
He does not have control, though he probably wishes he does.

He is the SINGLE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON on our economy though.

Our trillions of dollars of debt aren't about the economy, they are about our federal budget. Bush has spent the last seven years hounding Congress to spend hundreds of billions of dollars more than we have each year.
This is his war that is costing us trillions and trillions of dollars. Meanwhile, Iraq is going to have a budget surplus this year!!!!

And he is in cahoots with all his oil buddies and it is the price of gas that is not helping with the economy at all since it is also driving food and other prices up.
lets start at the top the ';i hate Bushies'; have a way to blame him for everything it is good for a daily laugh to read the posts . the only thing that is encouraging that these people are the 1%er's and make no difference in anything.
His overspending and Fed appointments are more than relevant.

So were those of the several administrations before him.
He has waged a war in Iraq, that is costing bilions and billions of dollars of tax money, and that has had a huge effect on our economy. Other than that, it is true that he hasn't hurt the economy other than to give tax cuts to everyone so that they can go out and buy more and more toys and crap made in China, which increases our national debt. This tax refund will just increase that problem, unless people just take that money and pay down their personal debt or put the money in the bank.
Yes and no. As president of the United States he has a certain level of control but our government was set up with checks and balances so Congress probably deserves just as much blame......
Picture ';BUSH'; as the point on top of the pyramid that is his administration...

The next level is composed of blocks that are composed of Dick Cheney and Bush's closest advisors some of which are public like Condi and some of which are very much private (Carlisle Group etc) and heads of large Media Corporations...etc

Below that are advisors and staff to those people who are the coming up with nominations for appointees to high positions Judicial and administrative...

Below that are those appointees that control their own staffs and have their own local or specialized sphere of influence...

A few levels down are the hoi-polloi, the great ';unwashed masses that make up the PUBLIC that are influenced and controlled politically and economically by ALL OF THE ABOVE...

Easier to just blame Bush! Don't you think?
this is happening on bush watch and he have done nothing but cut taxes that we will have to pay back for years . bush have had this i don't give a fk attitude when it came to this country economy if bush had any type of progressive education he would have had some knowledge of what to do long before this got out of hand . we elect presidents to know these thing but what do you expect from the biggest idiot in the world total ignorance
He has control over spending.

The GOP has spent like drunken sailors for the last 7 years.
He has some control over our federal deficit...and deficit spending.... this is different from how much we have to pay for gas...or how much the cost of food is....

If he were a better steward of our tax dollars...maybe that would encourage citizens to be better stewards of their own dollars....

Likewise....the President does not control the economy...but, his policies can prolong the slow period...or extend the good periods.....
The immense debt we have has more to do with Bush's persistence in Iraq than the economy...
';The greatest foreign policy blunder in the history of the USA'; mark those words, they are happening NOW!! coming soon to a gas station ear you $4/gallon.

1. no one has EVER cut taxes in the middle of an expensive Occupation!! We are ';Borrowing and Spending'; which is far more Irresponsible than ';Tax and spending';.

2. Iraq will eventually NATIONALIZE their OIL industry like every other country has i.e. Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, IRAN, Mexico, Iraq to the Brits. Then and only then will we decide if this invasion was worth the Blood and Treasure!!!

Haaa Haaa Hooo Hooo HOoo
Bush does have control on the government spending but not the housing market. The biggest problem I see was the home loans were given at a alarming rate to people that should have never qualified for a home loan in the first place. That in turn caused the down turn in the economy. Bush has been blamed for everything from the economy to Katrina to everything they can think of. Once he is no longer president, they will still bash him, but who every becomes president will also get bashed too. I think it is disrespectful to keep bashing the president no matter who he is.
The president does not have direct control over the economy, but through his actions, indirectly, such as budgets and deficits it affects the economy.
PLEASE, TRY to HOPE in one hand and SPIT in the other hand!

Which one is filling up the fastest??

Please, try to work your behind off for 40 or more hours a week. AND hand that paycheck to a Democrat. How much CHANGE are you going to get back ??

John F. Kennedy, a Democrat, was sworn in as the 35th President of THE United States of America, at noon on January 20, 1961. In his inaugural address he spoke of the NEED for ALL Americans to be ACTIVE CITIZENS, famously saying, ';Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.';

Please NOTICE that it said DEMOCRAT - NOT Socialist and / or Communist Democrat !!

It means this country is only as strong as the people in it. It means get off your a$$ and do something!!!

Unfortunately for Democrats ... they have to recognize that since the 73rd Congress in 1933, for a majority of the last 65 years, Democratic Houses of Representatives and Democratic Senates have CONTROLLED the nation and the President. A TOTAL of 38 Sessions with Democrats in CONTROL for 28 of those!

WE need to inform/TELL our political representatives that WE NEED TO PASS a Constitutional Amendment for the LINE ITEM VETO.

This will keep the SPECIAL INTEREST GARBAGE from being attached to valuable legislation.

The President was briefly granted this power by the Line Item Veto Act of 1996, passed by Congress in order to control ';pork barrel spending'; that favors a particular region rather than the nation as a whole. The line-item veto was used 11 times to strike 82 items from the federal budget by President Bill Clinton.

If Congress wants to give the president that power, they will have to pass a constitutional amendment, Supreme Justice John Paul Stevens said. ';If there is to be a new procedure in which the president will play a different role in determining the text of what may become a law, such change must come not by legislation but through the amendment procedures set forth in Article V of the Constitution,'; Stevens said, on June 25th, 1998.

IF your special interest is SO valuable, why do you have to HIDE it in valuable legislation?

So, with them REFUSING to PASS the Line Item Veto, in reality, the House and Senate have REALLY been controlling the country!!

AND, with the CURRENT Senate and Congress having the WORST approval rating in HISTORY, hopefully we will see a LOT of changes after the general elections.

A recent Reuters poll is out and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have pulled an upset: They have managed to make George Walker Bush twice as popular as CONGRESS.

The SENATE has a 25% APPROVAL RATING!

.
His administration has been spending way beyond their means. It's like this, if you make $1200 a month, but spend $6000 a month(i.e. credit cards/loans), for a whole year you'd be dead from debt.
