I think I heard this on 'Final Destination 3'. Yes, I know that not everything you hear on TV is correct. Is the reason many people are afraid of rollercoasters is because they fear having no control?
Do you think a person who was raised without much control, where they could make the rules and do as they wish, without parental figures that cared would be more afraid to go on a rollercoaster if this is the case?Is the fear of rollercoasters really an underlying fear of having no control?
I am no psychologist, but it makes sense. I suppose there can be more than one reason though.
Like no control, or fear of speed, or fear of heights. Is the fear of rollercoasters really an underlying fear of having no control?
To some degree it could be, but control is relative. It could also be fear of the unknown (in certain situations). However, it is usually a more primitive fear of physical harm which is more likely to cause a physiological autonomic response. It is usually caused either by the movements and or anticipation of the movements which the roller coaster makes.
I am not a big fan of psycho analysis, and haven鈥檛 been since I got my bachelors degree in psychology. I have moved on to the more measurable and less subjective social sciences.
The quote from the movie was mostly designed for theatrical presentation.
Yeah that does make sense. I was raised with very little control, and have always been very independent. I've been terrified of rollercoasters my whole life, and once I had to have them stop the ferris wheel to let me off. Go figure!
it truly depends on the person individiually and whats going on in their life that makes them afraid
