Am about to move into an apartment that has no pest control. how do i prevent roaches by myself?

i hate roaches and they seem to be everywhere in savannah! so how do i control them even before i move in so i don't have to see those creepy things!Am about to move into an apartment that has no pest control. how do i prevent roaches by myself?

Spray roach and bug spray around the perimeter of the apartment every couple of months. Especially in the kitchen, bathroom(s), and laundry room or anywhere else with water. Good luck! I hate roaches too!
I have to agree with Melius and I'll go further to say this. If there .are roaches in any of the other apartments, you WILL have roaches. There is NOTHING that will stop them from coming in to your apartment. Even if you think you have every crack sealed, and there's absolutely nothing in your apartment to attract them, you'll get them anyway.





Either move into an apartment building that already has monthly pest control or get ready for a battle that you can't win. Sorry. Been there. When I lived in Florida, I broke my lease to get away since the landlord didn't want to spend money on pest control.
my advice would be (though it may be too late) to not move anywhere that the landlord won't take care of the issue. Really, the only thing that works is a professional pest spray every month or two.





Otherwise, you can try Boric Acid, with cornmeal- if you roll it into small balls the pests will be repelled. But repelling them, of course, means you're repelling them back into the walls.

I use to live in SC and tried everything to get rid of them and I went to this backwoods hardware store and they suggested combat roach gel. It looks like caulking. Put it under your kitchen appliances and your washer and dryer. They were gone the next morning. I looked it up the other day for a friend and it cost right at $6 for a tube at Wal-Greens.
It's simple just be CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!
1) Clean the place thoroughly and the floors (hopefully not carpeted) with water/clorox mixture. DO NOT mix anything else with the Clorox; if you've got carpet, powder the carpet with Roach poison and allow it to work into the pile overnite, then vaccuum and then cover all the carpet with plastic sealing edges with duct tape all round and at seams. Leave on, if at all possible for the first month. 2)Put poison powder down carefully around the baseboards, including the baseboards inside and in back of the kitchen/bathroom cabinets. 3) Duct tape tight around bases of all pipes coming into the apt. at floor wherever you can get to them. 4) Place all garbage in tight plastic bags and dispose of daily; roaches love leftovers, crumbs, etc. Best to eat out of the apt. if at all possible; if not clean rigorously any and all surfaces and floors where food is consumed and/or prepared. 5) Never, never store anything in cardboard boxes. 6) Throw out all books or put them in storage bags.
